چکیده

We investigate the complexity of several decision, enumeration and counting problems in axiom pinpointing in Description Logics. We prove hardness results that already hold for the propositional Horn fragment. We show that for this fragment, unless p = np, all minimal subsets of a given TBox that have a given consequence, i.e. MinAs, cannot be enumerated in a specified lexicographic order with polynomial delay. Moreover, we show that recognizing the set of all MinAs is at least as hard as recognizing the set of all minimal transversals of a given hypergraph, however whether this problem is intractable remains open. We also show that checking the existence of a MinA that does not contain any of the given sets of axioms, as well as checking the existence of a MinA that contains a specified axiom are both np-hard. In addition we show that counting all MinAs and counting the MinAs that contain a certain axiom are both #p-hard.

Entailment-based Axiom Pinpointing in Debugging Incoherent Terminologies

One of the major problems of axiom pinpointing for incoherent terminologies is the precise positioning within the conflict axioms. In this paper we present a formal notion for the entailment-based axiom pinpointing of incoherent terminologies, where the parts of an axiom is defined by atomic entailment. Based on these concepts, we prove the one-to-many relationship between existing axiom pinpoi...

Complexity of Axiom Pinpointing in the DL-Lite Family of Description Logics

We investigate the complexity of axiom pinpointing for different members of the DL-Lite family of Description Logics. More precisely, we consider the problem of enumerating all minimal subsets of a given DL-Lite knowledge base that have a given consequence. We show that for theDL-Litecore,DL-Litekrom andDLLiteHN horn fragments such minimal subsets are efficiently enumerable with polynomial dela...

Using Tableaux and Automata for Pinpointing in EL

Axiom-pinpointing refers to the task of understanding the specific axioms that cause a consequence to follow from an ontology. The main problems related to axiom-pinpointing are the computation of minimal subontologies from which the consequence still follows (MinAs) or maximal subontologies not satisfying a property (MaNAs). Equivalently, one can try to compute a pinpointing formula, which is ...

Exploiting SAT Technology for Axiom Pinpointing

Axiom pinpointing is the task of identifying the axioms that are responsible for a consequence. It is a fundamental step for tasks like ontology revision and context-based reasoning, among many others. One known approach is to reduce axiom pinpointing to an enumeration problem over a set of Horn clauses. We introduce the new SATPin system, which combines techniques from axiom pinpointing and mi...

Efficient Axiom Pinpointing in EL using SAT Technology

We propose a novel approach to axiom pinpointing based on a reduction to the SAT task of minimal unsatisfiable subformula enumeration, allowing highly optimized algorithms and data structures developed for SAT solving in the last two decades to be used in this problem. Exploiting the specific properties of axiom pinpointing, we apply further optimizations resulting in considerable runtime impro...
